A haunting feline silhouette emerges from a delicate web of ossified filaments, suspended in a profound and silent abyss.

From the Blackened – A Cat Loving Series Unfit for Calendars collection — A shadowed gathering of cats caught between sleep and secret, where the familiar curl of a dozing companion turns tender, enigmatic and quietly unsettling.

Description

This work explores the liminal space between the living form and the architectural residue of memory. Through a complex network of bone-white textures and hollowed voids, the familiar feline shape is reimagined as a fragile, ethereal vessel. It is a study of structure and absence, where the biological meets the celestial in a monochromatic dance of high-contrast light.

Living with this piece invites a contemplative stillness into a room. It functions as a visual anchor that rewards long gazes, revealing hidden chambers and intricate connective tissues that seem to pulse against the dark. It is less a portrait of a creature and more an exploration of the intricate, quiet systems that underpin existence.

Purpose

This piece seeks to evoke the mystery of the internal world, using the feline form to express a sense of fragile permanence and the beauty found within skeletal complexity.

Interior Decorator’s Advice

  • Place against a dark, saturated wall to allow the white filaments to vibrate with maximum intensity.
  • Utilize pinpoint directional lighting to accentuate the depth within the hollowed voids.
  • Position in a quiet study or gallery corridor where the viewer can approach closely to inspect the fine detail.

Perfect For

  • Seekers of the avant-garde who appreciate the intersection of biology and myth.
  • Collectors of high-contrast monochrome art with a penchant for the mysterious.
  • Those who find beauty in the unconventional and the structurally complex.

From the Blackened – A Cat Loving Series Unfit for Calendars collection:

We tend to keep cats as cozy mascots, all sunbeams and soft calendars. This collection chooses the other doorway. Across eight works the cat becomes a creature of thresholds, half in light and half in shadow, dozing as though dreaming of somewhere we cannot follow. The deceptive ease of “Sunny Day” and “Afternoon Nap” gives way to the watchful charge of “Under Scrutiny” and the riddle of “Puzzled,” while “Picatsso” winks to remind us never to take the spell too seriously. The thread that binds these images is duality itself, the old sense of an animal present and absent at once, alive and elsewhere, its presence rendered close yet just beyond reach.

To live with these works is to keep a small mystery in the room. Muted tones and deep, breathing shadow lend each creature the calm secrecy real cats have always carried, returning your gaze as a question rather than an answer. They reward the slow look, the late hour, the quiet moment when you sense the room holding its breath. This is affection with an edge, companionship rendered as poetry, and a presence that lingers long after the lights go low.
