Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about Photonumerique artworks?
This FAQ covers everything from our Lambda Print process to delivery and returns. If your question isn’t answered here, contact us at contact@photonumerique.com or visit our showroom in Marseille.

Material & production

What is Lambda Print?

Lambda Print is a true silver halide photographic process where premium photo paper (Fuji Crystal DP II for color, Ilford for black and white) is exposed by high-resolution laser, then developed in a traditional photographic chemistry bath. The same process is used by Andreas Gursky, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Thomas Ruff. It produces deeper blacks and richer colors than inkjet printing.

What is Diasec face-mount?

Diasec is a face-mounting technique where a photographic print is sealed under a sheet of premium acrylic glass with an elastic silicone bonding agent. The silicone absorbs thermal expansion, preventing bubbles and cracks. Photonumerique uses 4 mm Diasec face-mount with alu Dibond backing for archival-grade longevity.

What is alu Dibond and why is it used?

Alu Dibond is a 3-layer composite panel: aluminum, polyethylene core, aluminum. It is the industry standard for backing face-mounted photographic prints because it stays perfectly flat over decades, resists moisture, and won’t warp like wood or MDF. Photonumerique uses 3 mm Dibond on every artwork.

How thick is each Photonumerique artwork?

Each artwork measures approximately 7 mm thick: 4 mm of premium acrylic glass on the front, 0.5 mm of elastic silicone bonding, and 3 mm of alu Dibond on the back. The recessed aluminum subframe extends the total wall depth to 25 mm when hung.

How long do Lambda Prints last?

Lambda Prints on Fuji Crystal DP II paper retain color fidelity for 50 to 75 years under proper conservation conditions (indoor display, normal lighting). Face-mounting under acrylic glass protects the print from UV, humidity, and direct contact. This longevity matches museum and gallery archival standards.

Sizes & formats

What sizes are available?

Photonumerique offers 46 standard sizes across 5 orientations: Square (8 sizes from 20 × 20 to 120 × 120 cm), Landscape 16:9 (10 sizes from 16 × 9 to 176 × 99 cm), Landscape 3:2 (10 sizes from 15 × 10 to 180 × 120 cm), Portrait 3:2 (10 sizes), and Portrait 16:9 (10 sizes). Each artwork is available in the orientation matching its original composition.

Can I order a custom size?

Custom sizes outside the standard catalog of 46 are available on quote for B2B clients, interior designers, and architectural projects. Contact us at oc@yty.yt with your specifications. For standard residential and professional use, the 46 standard sizes cover virtually any wall configuration.

Which orientation should I choose?

The orientation is determined by the artist when creating the artwork. Each piece in our catalog has a native orientation (Square, Landscape 16:9, Landscape 3:2, Portrait 3:2, or Portrait 16:9) shown on the product page. You choose the size within that orientation that fits your wall.

Where to display your artwork

Where can I hang a Photonumerique artwork?

Photonumerique artworks are designed for indoor display in any room with normal lighting and humidity: living rooms, offices, hotels, restaurants, medical practices, galleries, and showrooms. The premium materials and 50-75 year longevity make them ideal for permanent installation in homes and professional spaces.

Can I use acrylic glass in humid areas like bathrooms?

Photonumerique artworks tolerate moderate humidity but are designed for normal indoor environments. We do not recommend installation in high-humidity rooms like bathrooms or directly above stovetops. For such specific spaces, contact us at oc@yty.yt for advice.

Can I display Photonumerique artworks outdoors?

No. Photonumerique artworks are designed for indoor display only. While acrylic glass is durable, prolonged UV exposure and weather conditions will eventually fade any photographic print. For outdoor installations, specific weatherproof solutions exist but are outside our catalog.

Hanging & installation

Is the artwork ready to hang?

Yes. Every Photonumerique artwork ships with a custom recessed aluminum subframe integrated on the back. Installation requires only one wall screw — no additional hardware, no separate frame, no kit to buy. The artwork floats 25 mm off the wall with no visible mounting system. Total install time: under 5 minutes per artwork.

Is the mounting system compatible with picture rails (cimaises)?

Yes. The recessed aluminum subframe is compatible with picture rail systems (cimaises) commonly used in galleries, museums, and refined interiors. This allows you to hang and reposition artworks without drilling new holes — ideal for renters and rotating collections.

Order, payment & shipping

How do I track my order?

Once your order is placed, you will receive a confirmation email with a tracking number. You can also use our order tracking tool by entering your order number and email address to receive real-time updates on the status of your shipment.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Free shipping is included for metropolitan France. International shipping is available on quote — costs depend on destination and artwork size, typically ranging from 40 to 150 EUR per artwork. Contact us at oc@yty.yt for a shipping quote before ordering.

How long does delivery take?

Production takes approximately 10 business days from order confirmation (each artwork is made-to-order). Shipping within metropolitan France adds 2-3 business days. International shipping adds 5-10 business days. Total: typically 2-3 weeks from order to delivery.

Returns & warranty

What is your return policy?

Photonumerique offers hassle-free returns within 14 days of delivery. The artwork must be returned in its original packaging and condition. Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility for non-defective items. Refunds are processed within 5 business days of return receipt.

What is the warranty on a Photonumerique artwork?

Photonumerique guarantees the artwork against manufacturing defects (bubbles in Diasec face-mount, warping of alu Dibond, separation of layers) for the lifetime of the customer. Damage from improper handling, direct sunlight, or environmental factors is not covered. Replacement is at Photonumerique’s discretion.

What if my artwork arrives damaged?

Photonumerique guarantees free replacement if your artwork arrives damaged in transit. Take photos of the damaged packaging and artwork within 48 hours of delivery and email them to oc@yty.yt. A replacement is produced and shipped within the standard 10-business-day production window.
