Our prints: Lambda Print face-mounted on acrylic glass

Every Photonumerique artwork is produced via a professional gallery-grade process: true silver halide Lambda Print exposed by laser, face-mounted under glossy acrylic glass and alu Dibond panel, delivered with a recessed aluminum subframe integrated on the back for invisible wall mounting. The standard of fine art photography galleries and museums — applied to our digital art catalog.

A true silver halide photo print, not direct printing

Most mainstream platforms use direct printing on acrylic glass — an inkjet process applied directly to the acrylic plate. It’s fast, economical, and acceptable for mass-market decor. But it’s not a photographic print.

We use the Lambda Print process: a high-quality silver halide photo paper — Fuji Crystal DP II for color, Ilford for black and white — is exposed by a high-resolution laser, then chemically developed using the classic silver halide protocol. This is the professional process used by the labs of major fine art photography galleries (Gursky, Tillmans, Ruff). It delivers deep black density, superior color fidelity, and a longevity of 50 to 75 years under proper conservation.

A 3-layer sandwich construction

The silver halide print is then face-mounted using the professional technique called face mount or Diasec, sandwiched between 3 materials:

  1. Glossy acrylic glass — front face, 4 mm or 6 mm thick depending on size. Lightweight, perfect transparency, enhanced color brilliance, visual depth effect.
  2. Silver halide print + elastic silicone — central layer, which seals the print between the two plates. Silicone absorbs differential thermal expansion of the two outer materials.
  3. Alu Dibond — back panel, 3-layer composite (aluminum / polyethylene / aluminum). Rigid, stable, durable. Serves as structural support and anchor point for the hanging system.

This construction is guaranteed bubble-free and crack-free over time. Elastic silicone is the key: it absorbs the seasonal or daily thermal variations that would otherwise cause delamination between layers.

Glossy acrylic glass: 4 mm or 6 mm depending on size

The thickness of the acrylic glass has a direct impact on visual depth effect: the thicker the glass, the more pronounced the perceived depth. We offer two thicknesses, paired with specific size ranges:

ThicknessCharacterAssociated sizes
4 mm — the gallery standardElegant, balanced depth effect — perfect balance between sobriety and presence30×30, 40×40, 50×50, 70×70 cm
6 mm — maximum 3D effectPronounced visual depth, sculptural perception, strong spatial presence100×100, 120×120, 140×140 cm

The thickness is fixed per size — optimized for each format, accounting for weight, rigidity, and the expected visual rendering.

Recessed aluminum subframe: invisible wall mounting

On the back of every artwork is integrated a custom recessed aluminum subframe. This subframe plays two roles: it structurally reinforces the assembly, and serves as the hanging system.

On the wall side, the artwork mounts via this subframe, creating a wall offset of approximately 25 mm — the artwork appears to float on the wall, with no visible hardware, no frame, no accessories to buy. The result: the look of a professional gallery piece.

No additional hardware is required: your artwork arrives ready to hang. All you need is a pencil, a drill, and a wall-appropriate screw.
