Every picture in Enchanted Beginnings begins with a wonderful question a child might ask: what if a rabbit wore a unicorn’s horn, what if a puppy paddled with a duck’s webbed feet, what if a monkey carried a tiger’s stripes. From those playful pairings the artist Cordoleani draws a whole bestiary of newborn creatures, rendered with the soft fur, wide eyes and clumsy charm of the very young. They feel half-remembered from a bedtime story, half-discovered in a dream you had as a child and never quite let go.
