We tend to keep cats as cozy mascots, all sunbeams and soft calendars. This collection chooses the other doorway. Across eight works the cat becomes a creature of thresholds, half in light and half in shadow, dozing as though dreaming of somewhere we cannot follow. The deceptive ease of “Sunny Day” and “Afternoon Nap” gives way to the watchful charge of “Under Scrutiny” and the riddle of “Puzzled,” while “Picatsso” winks to remind us never to take the spell too seriously. The thread that binds these images is duality itself, the old sense of an animal present and absent at once, alive and elsewhere, its presence rendered close yet just beyond reach.
