Sweet Landmarks rebuilds the wonders of the world out of the one thing each city does best at the pâtisserie counter. The Eiffel Tower in Paris Made of Colorful Macarons rises in pastel tiers; Big Ben in London Made of Scones and Clotted Cream keeps perfect time in crumb and cream; The Colosseum in Rome Made of Tiramisu Layers stacks its arches in cocoa and mascarpone. Eight monuments, eight desserts, one very hungry grand tour.
The need — warmth and appetite for the kitchen wall
Our decorator sees food imagery climbing steadily in what people hang at home, and this series is its most cheerful form. The natural home is the kitchen, the dining room or a breakfast nook — anywhere a meal is shared. The Pyramids of Giza Made of Baklava Layers, in honey and gold, warms a pale sage wall instantly; The Leaning Tower of Pisa Made of Cannoli is made for a small kitchen with a sense of fun. Beyond the home, bakeries, cafés, hotel breakfast rooms and cooking schools find here a decoration that is on-brand without being a logo.
The production — a monument first, a dessert second
The art director gave the series one discipline: the landmark must remain unmistakable before the pastry is noticed. Proportions, silhouette and viewpoint follow the real building; only the material changes. The Statue of Liberty in New York Made of Donuts keeps her torch and her folds, now glazed and sprinkled; The Empire State Building in New York Made of Chocolate Chip Cookies stacks its setbacks in golden-brown. The Great Wall of China Made of Crispy Fortune Cookies winds over the hills in folded, brittle curves. The lighting is that of a food photographer’s studio — soft, warm, close — so that every texture looks within reach.
The sale — the gift people actually smile at
Our gallerist has a soft spot for this collection because it solves a classic problem: the present for someone who loves to travel and loves to eat. One monument is a personal nod — the city of a honeymoon, a childhood, a favourite trip. A pair across a dining-room wall, say The Eiffel Tower in Paris Made of Colorful Macarons and The Colosseum in Rome Made of Tiramisu Layers, turns dinner into a tour. Printed on acrylic glass, the glazes, creams and sugars take on a glossy, lacquered depth that looks good enough to eat — the one shining surface in a warm, matte kitchen.
