Map of Drought

Price range: 118,29 € through 1812,50 € ht

Pale clay dries into a soft mosaic, fine plates parted by crisp dark fissures that wander like rivers across a warm neutral field.

From the Quiet Matter collection — Eight pale surfaces seen so closely they become pure feeling — the quiet luxury of material itself, distilled into calm.

Description

A warm-neutral surface has settled into a quiet web of cracks, each fissure a fine dark line drawn against luminous clay. The pattern belongs entirely to nature, yet it reads almost like an abstract map — of time, of patience, of the slow geometry that drought leaves behind. There is something elemental in it, a stillness that holds the eye without ever raising its voice.

In a room, this piece becomes a centre of calm. Its earthy palette and organic lines settle effortlessly against stone, plaster or pale wood, lending a grounded, contemplative presence to an entryway, a living space or a quiet office. It is the kind of image that rewards a second look, inviting you to trace its fissures and feel the steadiness of the earth brought indoors.

Quiet Matter is a collection that asks almost nothing of you and gives a great deal in return. Drawn near, raw plaster, draped linen, warm sandstone, a stack of river stones and a fold of silk stop being objects and turn into texture — light grazing a wall, a shadow leaning in, a seam where two pale planes meet. The palette never raises its voice: oatmeal, cream, bone, soft greige, the colour of late sun on a quiet room. There is nothing to decode and everything to feel.

The thread that binds these works is the Japanese spirit of wabi-sabi, the beauty of the imperfect, the weathered and the unhurried. Each panel takes the ordinary stuff of the world and makes it contemplative, so that cracked earth and ash become as eloquent as any grand vista. Hung together they build a slow rhythm of surface and tone; hung alone, each becomes a pocket of stillness — a place for the eye to rest and the mind to soften, day after day.
