Retro-Futuristic Visions looks forward through the eyes of the past. Chrome rockets, gleaming robots, cities rising into a clear sky: this is the future as the jet age imagined it, full of optimism and a little innocent. Eight works revisit that promise with affection, and a touch of wonder.
The need — playful, graphic, and full of character
Our decorator finds retro-futurism one of the most versatile themes in the catalogue: it suits a mid-century living room, a home office with a bold desk lamp, or a child’s room dreaming of space. The rounded forms and polished surfaces echo the sculptural lighting and soft shapes seen at this season’s design fairs. Skyward Cities and Galactic Gateway open up a wall like a window; Retro Robotics brings a smile to a playroom or a workshop.
The production — the optimism of a lost era
The art director built the series on the visual codes of mid-century illustration: streamlined silhouettes, sweeping curves, a palette of chrome, turquoise, coral and sunset orange. Jet Age Journey and Rocket Men celebrate the age of travel and adventure; Atomic Age Dreams and Future’s Past capture the domestic utopias of the period; Neon Nights carries the same dream after dark, into glowing streets and starlit towers.
The sale — nostalgia for a future that never came
Our gallerist enjoys how this collection appeals across generations: older buyers recognise the dream, younger ones love its graphic charm. Pieces work alone as a statement, or in a pair such as Jet Age Journey with Skyward Cities for a hallway or a stairwell. On acrylic glass the chrome highlights and neon accents shine with a clean, polished depth that suits the subject perfectly.
